Download the free Hidden Heritage app to help you to explore the Forest of Dean’s past, using old maps and new technology. Watch the images move between the past and the present.
As you explore the trail, your location will be tracked on the map using the GPS built into your device. When you near a point of interest, the GPS triggers a set of information which relates to the site. This could be text or a “fading image” that switches between the historic and modern landscape. The app is free to download to mobiles or tablets and are easy to follow. The Coleford Hidden Heritage app follows a 7 mile route around the historic market town of Coleford, including Scarr Bandstand, Darkhill Iron Works and Titanic Steelworks. Discover Coleford’s rich history through 31 points of interest. Learn how Coleford was once at the forefront of the developing national iron and steel industry.
